The Science Behind The Superfood

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Rockster we believe our dogs ROCK, and what they eat is the single most important decision they trust us to make for them. We are what we eat is as true for dogs as it is for us and we have an absolute right to know exactly what is in the food we are buying! What started with a magical street dog capturing our hearts on our honeymoon in 2004, has now become a passion to leave no stone unturned to offer loving pet owners like us, the choice of giving the “best of the best” to their dogs to enhance their lives in every way. To offer the ability to feed, or superboost other foods, with the highest calibre of complete and organic food to their dog, without having to cook and source the ingredients themselves or fill their freezer with dog food whose nutrient value is diminishing each day. We believe in the natural powers of superfoods and the extraordinary healing potential they offer both us and our dogs. We also believe in reinventing the can, because convenience should not necessarily involve compromise!

Certified Bio-Quality:

We have a pervasive belief that quality is everything, especially in what we eat. Accordingly, Rockster products are made with more than just “human grade” ingredients, ours are certified to be free from antibiotics, adjuvant chemicals, growth hormones, pesticides, and steroids. At the heart of the philosophy behind Rockster are the scientific theories of Sir John Vane, especially concerning the rise of NCDs (Non-commutable diseases such as allergies, obesity, diabetes and cancer etc) being linked with the systemic use of antibiotics and other chemicals in our food and dysbiosis in the gut microbiome.  It is a universal fact that no lion in the wild died allergic to antelope, wildebeest, zebra or giraffe.  No human or dog was born allergic to beef, chicken – or their eggs.

ANTIBIOTICS USAGE IN THE USA:

Over 65% of all antibiotics in the USA are used in agriculture:

“In the US, farmed animals are routinely fed antibiotics to promote their growth. Antibiotics are an integral tool of factory farming…The crowded conditions of immunocompromised animals on factory farms are a breeding ground for pathogens, and to ensure that sick animals grow quickly and stay alive until slaughter, they are routinely fed antibiotics, even when they are not sick.”  Farm Forward,  www.farmforward.com/issues/antibiotics-public-health/

Aside from the clear public health issues surrounding antimicrobial resistance, subtherapeutic dosing of antibiotics destroys the microbial balance in the gut – this is now acknowledged worldwide.  And that’s human food…

ROCKSTER, ZERO ANTIBIOTICS & THE MICROBIOME:

The complete absence of any chemicals, use of antibiotics even in animals that have been on the soil of the grass they eat (let alone those used for the food) is central to our philosophy. It is universally acknowledged that the nutrient profile of this meat is different, including higher levels of Omega 3. Indeed the antioxidant levels if Bio-organic fruits and vegetables can be up to 20 times higher.

Moreover, there is zero antibiotic activity so good bacteria are allowed to rebalance the gut microbiome.  This is further aided by the organic Fermented Jerusalem artichoke concentrate that we use as a natural inulin source and prebiotic.

As you would imagine, these ingredients have a completely different taste profile which is further enhanced naturally by the way we cook the food, without the need for preservatives. The resulting bio-quality recipes taste like no other whilst nurturing the gut microbiome, supporting life at the cellular level rather than set it to work processing chemicals and allergens.

Transparency and Traceability:

We believe that transparency is vital - you have the right to know precisely what your beloved dogs are eating. This is why each Rockster product has the full ingredients list completely itemised and accounted for. We even tell you EXACTLY which parts of the animal we use.

Our bio-certification guarantees not only the quality and purity of our ingredients, but also what the ingredients have eaten or been exposed to. It is proof that none of these ingredients have been compromised and that there is no risk of contamination by anything else in the production process.

Bio-Superfoods with Prebiotics:

It is widely accepted, in many cases with clinical evidence, that certain foods with elevated nutrient content commonly referred to as “superfoods” for humans have amazing health benefits for dogs too! Rather than using fillers, Rockster products are enhanced with bio-organic plant-based superfoods certified to be free from any exposure to pesticides. These are added in scientific combinations and meaningful quantities to make a real difference to your dog. All Rockster products are also prebiotic as they contain inulin from fermented Jerusalem artichoke concentrate. This powerful superfood and organic prebiotic aids nutrient absorption in the digestive tract as well as nurtures the gut microbiome of your dog.

Our Sous-Vide Cooking Process:

Crucially, unlike most other commercial pet foods, Rockster Superfood is gently poached from raw in the air-tight BPA free can at the lowest possible temperatures, mirroring sous-vide cooking methods. Sous-vide is French for “under vacuum” and is used by Michelin chefs to maximise the taste of food as well as ensuring nutrients and fatty acids are not lost to cooking water. The first time these ingredients meet oxygen is when the can is opened, unlike most fresh or frozen foods which lose nutrients both in the cooking and storage process. Other canned pet foods have been cooked or heavily processed multiple times before being sterilised at high temperatures in the can.

Free From Peas, Lentils & Other Legumes:

Although considered higher quality, pet food diets containing no grains often contain large amounts of legumes. Legumes such as lentils and peas provide protein and therefore can be used to boost protein content in foods with lesser meat quantities. However, the amino acid profile of meat and legumes is different, particularly concerning the essential acids Methionine and Cystine. These amino acids are plentiful in meat protein but lacking in legumes. Methionine and Cystine are the precursor to Taurine, which is synthesised by dogs. The lack of dietary Taurine has been recently linked to DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) in dogs. Rockster foods contain no grains (we consider quinoa a seed), however, they also contain no legumes and all are comprised of at least 80% bio-organic meat content.

Ultimately, leaving no stone unturned to create the “best of the best” lies at the heart of our philosophy.
